Reims is a major French city named after St. Remi, the bishop who was credited for turning King Clovis of the Franks into a convert. Originally founded by the Gallic people or the Gauls, this city enjoys a rich culture, which had first been developed by the Celtic people. It is in this cathedral where the Kings of France were once crowned. This cathedral was destroyed during World War I but its splendor has long been restored.

Located next to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims is the Palais du Tau, the former palace of bishops that was built in 1690. This structure is now home to different holy relics and original statues that were once placed on the façade of the cathedral.

Another cathedral that appeals to tourists is the Basilica St-Rémi. This church was built more than 1,000 years ago. Inside, relics of medieval art and armor are being preserved.

Historic Sites

Rich in history, Reims boasts of a number of historical sites that speak volumes of how life was during the ancient ages. One of the most historic spot in this small French city is the Salle de Reddition, a building that was once a school house. It is in this very building that the Germans surrendered to the US forces in 1945. The Salle de Reddition is open everyday for tourists except Tuesdays.
