The Facebook chat application is one of the many features that has made Facebook so engaging. There are many people who use Facebook for the sole purpose of Facebook chat.

Facebook messenger for the desktop has been available for some time now, but I kept myself away from it as Facebook is the biggest enemy of  productivity. However I decide to try the messenger application.

If you expect a lot of features from a messenger then this is not for you. Facebook has gone Google’s way by releasing a minimal instant messenger quite similar to Google Talk.

The application is very light (around 300kb) and it doesn’t takeup much resources when running in the background. I found the Facebook messenger to be quite sleek, and will be useful for Facebook addicts who want to stay online all the time. The chat windows are tabbed so that you may chat with multiple friends easily.

Apart from the chat feature it doesn’t really offer much  (no video calls etc). You can check notifications and messages but it’s do so by opening fcebookt in the browser. Like all other applications you can also pin Facebook messenger to the taskbar in Windows 7.
